Territory-Based Creations

The territory-based creations produced by the Lézards Qui Bougent company in Les Hauts de Bayonne, with the support of local partners, are designed to engage with local communities while also involving the associative and educational network in their development. These creations are often connected to the themes explored in the company’s productions—but not exclusively!

HEART OF EXILE / 1 Performance / Cultural Center in Fumel / FRANCE

March 11, 2016

"A unique theatrical moment, a little gem. The audience witnessed the performance of Heart of Exile, a fleeting creation brought to life by Kristian Frédric, featuring four readers from L’Escale, an association that supports the reintegration of individuals distanced from work and social life. The simplicity of the reading undeniably highlighted the power of the message.

The spectator, suitcase in hand, lost in the mist—was he the exile, the migrant evoked by Paul Celan and Peter Handke, or one of the men and women whose testimonies had been chosen by the readers? It was both the spoken words and the staging, serving a greater cause, that profoundly moved the audience. Emotional, they left the room unsure whether to applaud or hold their breath." — Michel Debiard, Sud-Ouest

A LITTLE REFRAIN, MY LADY / 1 Performance / MVC du Polo Beyris in Bayonne / FRANCE
February 7, 2016

When thinking of Scapin—or rather Gennaro Costagliola, as depicted through the words of François Douan—it’s impossible not to hum certain tunes from the 1930s. One can easily imagine our Gennaro meeting Gabin, Charles Vanel, and Viviane Romance in La Belle Équipe…

That’s why we asked Jacques Nouard to create a concert featuring these refrains, weaving them into the story of our character. Early morning shoppers at Place des Gascons, the Halles market in Bayonne, and Quintaou in Anglet had the chance to hear some of these melodies performed by musicians and town criers. During the performance, the audience experienced the full rendition of this heartfelt ballad.

A festive concert where musicians, town criers, and Jacques Nouard took spectators on a journey through the legend of Gennaro Costagliola. Directed by Kristian Frédric, alongside his creative team, the evening unfolded within the scenic world of the production, offering the audience an unforgettable moment.

ANDROMAQUE CODE BREUER / 2 Performances / Sports Complex of Hauts de Sainte Croix in Bayonne / FRANCE
November 30, 2013

30.11.2013

WE ARE NOT ANIMALS II la Performance / 12 représentations / Musée de Gajac à Villeneuve sur Lot / FRANCE - 19.05.2012

Through this performance, which took place at the Sainte Croix Sports Complex on Saturday, November 30, 2013, Kristian Frédric once again awakened this myth, making it resonate with the piercing echoes of our contemporary obsessions.

Author François Douan was entrusted with bringing this fable to life. The actors were none other than the residents of the neighborhood, participants from the workshops of the Espace Socio-Culturel des Hauts de Sainte Croix and MVC Saint-Étienne, along with many others. They were joined by professional artists who came to share this adventure.

With two hundred participants, the performance took the audience on a journey through this modern epic.

WE ARE NOT ANIMALS / 1 Performance / Théâtre Georges Leygues in Villeneuve-sur-Lot / FRANCE - June 10, 2011

We Are Not Animals was a creation that involved 110 students working for over a year under the direction of stage director Kristian Frédric.

A play composed of multiple tableaux, it left no spectator unscathed on the evening of June 10. Its images, words, and music left an indelible mark. No one will forget Rosa Parks speaking about segregation and daring to say no, the pain of the prostitutes, or Cinderella—only 10 years old—being forced into marriage.

A Performance Festival for Eight Years in Bayonne / Anglet / Biarritz

"A major event in the European live arts scene."
— Artension, 2011

For eight years, this festival provided a platform for numerous artists to challenge and merge their artistic expressions through performances held across Bayonne, Anglet, and Biarritz. It brought together a wide range of disciplines, including theater, cinema, music, dance, photography, poetry, painting, and visual arts. These performances resonated in diverse locations and offered festival-goers the chance to experience and share artists' concerns in playful and unconventional ways.

As part of our programming, we aimed to bring some performances to urban priority neighborhoods, particularly the Hauts de Sainte-Croix district in Bayonne. Moreover, in our ongoing effort to foster engagement and cultural exchange, we felt it essential to involve the local population in the festival. To achieve this, we collaborated with local socio-educational organizations and schools, building outreach initiatives together. Many young people attended performances or exhibitions and had the opportunity to meet the festival’s artists.

The festival continued to grow each year, attracting an ever-increasing audience. We received numerous testimonials from artists who were pleasantly surprised by the space provided for artistic exchange—a place where they could meet fellow artists, share a moment of collective creation, and engage with the public in an unprecedented way.

In 2007, we invited Olivier de Sagazan as an associate artist, and he delivered an outstanding program. The following year, the experience continued with pianist Antoine Bataille. We also invited Olivier de Sagazan to create a retrospective exhibition of his work, featuring a temporary stage where live performances took place within the exhibition space. From that point on, we integrated artist exhibitions into our annual programming. In 2012, we showcased the work of Anne Bothuon, and in 2013, Pippo Delbono embraced the new challenge of curating an exhibition—an entirely novel experience for him.

The internationally renowned performer Yann Marussich participated for two consecutive years, presenting one of his performances and leading a conference on his approach to performance art. This artistic and human exchange led to the creation of the book Notes d’inemploi de la performance, published by our company in 2012.

Each edition of the festival offered audiences unique experiences, featuring multidisciplinary contemporary creations and direct interactions with the artists. Unexpected encounters took place between local and international performers—such as the Basque txalapartistes of Ttipia Ta Txomin and buto dancer Gyuhei Zaitsu—blending two distinct traditions. These artistic meetings often inspired further collaborations, leading to performances beyond the festival.

We also organized free weekend workshops with invited performers, culminating in a public showcase. The festival reached beyond traditional theater spaces, activating the streets, shops, storefronts, libraries, and museums to engage audiences in new and immersive ways.
